Painters and decorators in Henley
Henley-on-Thames is a town of two decorating worlds. The centre and the roads down to the river are full of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many of them listed or in conservation areas. Out towards the fringes you find 1930s semis, 1960s and 1970s family houses, and a steady supply of newer builds. Each type of property brings its own set of surfaces, its own preparation work and its own paint systems. A decorator who treats every house the same will not get the finish right.
Older properties in Henley often have lime plaster, deep skirting boards, panelled doors and windows that have been painted many times before. Preparation is everything. We wash down, fill, sand, caulk and spot prime before any topcoat goes on. On new plaster we always apply a mist coat first, so the finish does not peel or flash. On previously painted woodwork we sand back to a sound key, repair any damage, and only then apply the appropriate primer, undercoat and topcoat.
Newer homes have their own challenges. Plasterboard walls need the joints and fixings filled and sanded properly, or the paint will show every imperfection. MDF skirtings and architraves need the right primer before a water-based satin or eggshell. Developers often leave walls with a thin coat of contract matt that marks as soon as you touch it. We can repaint those in a durable finish that will actually clean down.
Henley also has a high number of rental properties, both long-term lets and short-term riverside accommodation. Landlords and letting agents need decorating that is fast, clean and hard-wearing, with minimum void periods. We work to tight schedules, use quick-drying water-based paints where appropriate, and leave every room ready for the next tenancy.
